Koh Tao Diving: The Crowd-Pleaser
Koh Tao, that tiny Gulf of Thailand island, is a Thailand diving legend—divers swarm here for its chill vibe and 25+ dive sites. Picture underwater playgrounds with coral gardens, rocky pinnacles, and swim-throughs like an ocean obstacle course. Expect schools of fusiliers, sassy barracuda, and green turtles munching away. June–July brings whale shark fever at Chumphon Pinnacle—pure magic! Here’s the scoop on top sites:
-
Chumphon Pinnacle: A seamount (14–35 meters) packed with anemones, trevally, and maybe a whale shark. Great for all levels.
-
Sail Rock: A pinnacle (5–40 meters) with a rad “chimney” swim-through and barracuda schools. July’s viz is fire.
-
Southwest Pinnacle: Coral rocks (5–30 meters) crawling with nudibranchs and moray eels. Macro heaven.
Koh Tao’s toasty waters (27–30°C) and night dives (glowing plankton, yo!) make it a summer must. Ready for Koh Tao diving?

You might not know these places, but I’m telling you, they’re absolutely worth the visit and just as mind-blowing as the Similans. Actually, during this time, tons of Thailand liveaboards head to these gems, serving up 5-star vibes with chefs cooking fresh Thai curries and tropical smoothies, super-friendly crews who’ve got your back, and unreal service whether you pick budget or luxe.
